Holiday News Clips: Nuisance Animal Control in Holiday A thieving raccoon was stealing cat food out of his barn. The Holiday rancher tried to solve his problem again and again. A few years ago, Fred Kreger had raccoons on his cattle farm so he set a trap. He caught a raccoon whose tail had been cut off, so he named him Bobby, the Bob-Tailed Coon. Kreger didn't want to kill him, so he drove a few miles away, opened the cage and set him free. Three days later, he found Bobby in the cage again, so he drove him 12 miles away. A few weeks later he was back in the trap again. So he drove him 20 miles away and there was Bobby, back again. Five times, Kreger took Bobby up to 32 miles away but every time he comes back again. Kreger says he figures each time Bobby came back he had to make his way over the rail road tracks, over the highways, past coyotes, hunters' dogs, traps, and survive the coon hunting season, just to get back to the barn. The story hit the local paper giving Kreger and Bobby some notoriety. Neighbors even began to look out for Bobby. Kreger decided if Bobby is that determined, he should let him stay. Kreger says if Bobby gives him too much trouble, he may take him on another trip. Kreger said that last year he dropped off about 25 raccoons. He then said, "Maybe I’m just taking the same four raccoons over and over again." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
